Norsk Luftfartsmuseum (The Norwegian Aviation Museum) opened in 1994 and is Norway's national museum for aviation history. The museum is located in Bodø in a building shaped like a giant propeller, and covers military and civil aviation history. The museum is spread over roughly 10,000 square metres of floor space. The exhibition is the largest in the field of aviation in the Nordic region. The Norwegian Aviation Museum in Bodø is a technical and cultural history museum designed to convey knowledge and understanding of the history of aviation in a stimulating manner. It is preserving the Norwegian aviation history heritage and takes responsibility for international contacts. The Norwegian Aviation Museum will play an important role in the search for the Latham. Under former director Mr. Kjell Lutnes, the museum took the initiative to investigate the disappearance of the Latham in 2002/03. In 2005 Mr. Kjell Lutnes retired as director for Norsk Luftfartsmuseum, but on behalf of the museum he has kept up the work in order to continue the search for the Latham. He is the museum’s project coordinator and reports directly to the present director, Sven Scheiderbauer.
